Aloha! E Komo Mai! Finally a Blog!

The Beauty & Strength of a LotusThrough much guidance and support, I’ve finally made the leap to blog.  As I search my soul on what to write in my first blog post, the first thing I added is a lotus.  It is a symbol that has incredible meaning. Sure– there are many flowers that bloom on the water but only the lotus rises eight to twelve inches above the surface because of the strength of its stem.  It somehow rises up from the muddy bottom of the pond. Some believe this pattern of growth signifies the progress of the soul from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and into the bright sunshine of enlightenment.  While I am not at enlightenment, I am much transformed since my childhood days. Lets face it, I was a shy, awkward kid with few friends.

At age 14, I was a quirky tomboy determined to come out of my geeky shell and “be somebody”.  The only thing I excelled in is giving the school announcements on the overhead speaker.  But it took an even bigger thing to increase my determination and my future. That transformation happened when my mother took me in for my first makeover at “Merle Norman”. Okay, so Merle Norman was “the ultimate makeover” back in the early 80’s.  When I returned to school with a face full of makeup I was labeled “Cover Girl” by the boys in school.  Let me set the record straight, I was never a cheerleader, or homecoming queen, I barely slid through my grades. It wasn’t that I didn’t try. I tried feverishly to make it into those coveted spots but I just didn’t  have “IT”.  Makeup was life changing for me. There was something about makeup that I enjoyed.  I loved the gadgets, the brushes, the colors and textures. I always felt like my face was the canvas and my makeup was my pallet.  That is why I am going to blog about health and beauty.  Okay MEN… I’m calling on you to continue reading! You are going to learn a lot by reading this blog. Not just about the women in your life, but things that can help you too in every day life.

For those who don’t know me– I did make it past those awkward days of grade school and high school. I have been in television for more than fifteen years.  During those fifteen years, I spent time testing, trying and finding health and beauty products as well as gadgets and all kinds of things.  I was fortunate, as a health reporter– companies sent me their new products and asked me to try them.  At the makeup counter I was always given a handful of samples to try. Trust me, I tried it all! My friends know that I am part tomboy fix-it girl and part glitz queen/girlie-girl.  I am resourceful and I have solutions for every health/beauty/lifestyle dilemma you can imagine. I look forward to sharing my tips and knowledge with you. I especially look forward to learning from you, listening to your questions and your feedback.

I start each day reminding  myself that I am here to educate, inspire, and create change.

Here’s to your health! Malama Pono I Kou Kino! (Take care of your body)

Merle Norman! They had one in the Kahala Mall when I was going to Chaminade in the early 80’s. Their makeovers were awesome, especially for a country girl like me.
